Exam Structure

Section A 

Textual Analysis and Representation

Have to analyse a 5 minute tv clip about a drama (could be anything).
Four different areas that we analyse :
- Camera Angles, Shots, Movements, Composition
- Mise en Scene (Lighting, Props, Facial expressions, Clothing, Make-Up, Setting etc)
- Editing
- Sound

All have a bearing on how people are represented and how the story is told.
These are the elements of Textual Analysis.

People can be represented by:
- Movement
- Talking
- Actions
- Attitudes
- Facial expressions
- How they are presented for eg. hair, dress sense, make-up etc.
- The way they walk
- Eye contact
- The way they talk
- Accent

People can be categorised differently by:
- Ethnicity
- Age
- Sexuality
- Gender
- Social influences
- Class
- Status
- Religion
- Physical ability/disability
- Regional identity
